Welcome to Broadstairs Active Retirement Association - BRADARA for short!
We are affiliated to the Kent Active Retirement Association (KentARA) which has 84 club branches throughout Kent.
What is an “ARA”? Kent is the only county with ARAs (Active Retirement Associations) throughout the area. BradARA is a satellite group from the well established TARA (Thanet Active Retirement Association.)which has been running for since 1983 averaging 150 members throughout its lifetime.
Monthly Meetings & Occasional Social Events BradARA holds monthly meetings for all its members on the first Tuesday of the month throughout the year at 10 am in the Memorial Hall, 31 High Street, St. Peter’s, Broadstairs, Kent, CT10 2TH. There is a monthly guest speaker, chosen to be both interesting and entertaining for our members, as well as tea and biscuits, and chatter! We also organise social events. To attend these BradARA meetings and BradARA social events, it is necessary to be a full member. Membership to BradARA is £26.00 annual subscription (Jan-Dec) this covers the cost of meeting hall hire/Insurance/speakers and refreshments. Members are encouraged to attend meetings when available and actively participate in some of the events and activities arranged by the Committee. Social Membership is £14 but you cannot attend monthly meetings. Social members can attend all other events and activities. To join please fill in our the enquiries form on this site. We will reply to your email. If you do not have an email address please call in to our monthly meeting to enquire directly. No telephone contact is currently available.
So what do we do? BradARA run a weekly Ukulele Club (beginners welcome) and a Cribbage Club. There is also a weekly early morning walk on Wednesdays. Monthly we have a locally held coffee morning, lunch group and book (reading) group. In addition there are different activities each day of the week run by TARA such as : Zumba, Keep Fit, Kurling, Walk and Line Dancing. BradARA members can attend TARA activities provided there are spaces. The activities are geared to over 60's pace but instructors are very welcoming and fun helping participants to work at a level appropriate to their physical health whilst making progress in their fitness level.
But that’s not all … There are also monthly outings including coach trips to places of interest, to theatres and to shows (average cost £45 incl coach); a full day coach hire averages £400/500 so filling them is essential to bring down the cost for all. BradARA plan to do 'meet ups' at local events too such as 'tribute' band/singer evenings.
We organise an annual BradARA Holiday and have access to TARA Holidays too if they have spaces. These budget holidays which include sight-seeing trips and evening entertainment are great fun. Trips are usually planned mid week. A benefit of being a full member of BradARA/TARA is that members get the first opportunity to book events and trips before we fill spaces with non members or other local ARA,s.
